Case Study Highlights
The Client: Belvac Production Machinery Inc. located in Virginia is the international leader in the production of systems that provide beverage can makers with high-speed trimming, necking, base reprofiling and reforming, shaping, bottom rim coating, flanging and inspection technology.
The Challenge: Create a cost effective guarding system for fixed based machine. In the closed position the design must be CE compliant and be a robust, mechanically sound product. In the open position the guarding must allow full access to machine with minimal dead zones.
Solution: 3DMDT created a light-weight semi automatic guarding system with electronic fail-safe entry detection. The design incorporate jigs and fixtures for drilling mounting holes with great accuracy, using existing machine features.
Benefits: Saved customer $1M + in machine replacement expense by designing a retro-fit guarding system for legacy machines. Robust design allows mechanics to walk on machines to service other non-operation critical components while in operation.
